The following columns illustrate the impact of Options 2 and 3. These are good changes, they increase sales by $1million or $500,000. They also have negative consequences. Option 2, for example, increases the cost by $100 000 while Option 3 decreases profits by $200 000.
The final column shows results of choosing Option 4. This results in a decrease of sales by $1,000,000
A decision matrix has the advantage that you don’t have to remember where numbers belong. Simply look at the cells to instantly determine if one choice is better than the other.
The matrix has already done all of the work. It's simply a matter of comparing the numbers in the relevant cells.
Here's a sample of how you might use decision matrixes in your business.
You need to decide whether to invest in advertising. If you do, you'll be able to increase your revenue by $5 thousand per month. However, additional expenses of $10 000 per month will be incurred.
If you look at the cell that says "Advertising", you can see the number $15,000. Advertising is worth more than its cost.
